Sometimes hearing aids don’t seem to work the way you think they should. Here are a few tips on what you and your parents can check before taking them to your hearing care professional.
If there is no sound in your hearing aid, try to:
- Insert a new battery
- Make sure the switch on the hearing aid is on the M-position
- Clean the earmold (only for BTE hearing aids)
- Turn up the volume
If these tips do not help, you and your parents should ask your hearing care professional to check your hearing aids.
If your hearing aid whistles, try to:
- Turn down the volume a little (this will only help temporarily)
- Clean the earmold and put the mold and hearing aid back on (only for BTE hearing aids)
- Check for cracks or tears in the tube between the hearing aid and the earmold
- Have the ear canal examined by your hearing care professional or doctor
- Have a new earmold made
You and your parents should always contact your hearing care professonal if these tips do not help you to solve the problem.
